Silverlight Fun
I’ve been wanting to get into silverlight for quite a while now. I never really bothered w/version 1.0 because you had to code everything up with javascript, and I’ve never been a huge fan.
Well, I’ve finally had a chance in the last couple of months to play around a bit and have put out a few little silverlight apps:

and here: http://www.pokernewspage.com/pnptools/HandReplayer/Default.aspx
I’ll be posting more detail about each one in the projects section of the site sometime, and will surely be doing a few more silverlight apps very soon.
CameronHeadcovers.com v2.0
This past weekend I uploaded a new version of the CameronHeadcovers.com site. Other than the obvious new look and feel, I also have added some new features for those users who are tracking their headcover collection online:
- Added the ability to enter your purchase date for covers in your collection
- Added the ability to enter your purchase price for covers in your collection
- Automatic tracking of gain/loss for covers in your collection for which you have entered a purchase price
- Updated the graph on our value guide page to an animated flash-based graph
- Increased the number of collection pictures displayed on the collection page from 3 to 5
Hopefully CameronHeadcovers.com users will find these new features helpful. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have a suggestion for the site.
President-elect Barack Obama uses a Zune
I've had my Zune since they were first released a couple years ago and have always loved it - in the non-biblical sense of course. And since Microsoft has added 10 free "keep forever" downloads to it's $15/month monthly subscription, I'm on board with that as well. Now it seems that the President-Elect is on board as well. I did vote for him, but if I had realized Mr. Obama was a Zune guy, I might've voted for him twice. Maybe that would've put him over the hump here in Missouri.
In Your Face, Oprah!
Well, in my last post, I lamented on the fact that my wife's Christmas was going to be ruined because Oprah Winfrey recently featured the Amazon Kindle on her show causing an 11-13 week backorder on the at Amazon. This morning I decided to check the prices on e-bay and found that some are now fetching close to $1000!
So I decided why not take another look at amazon.com and see if there are any third-party sellers offering them at a reasonable price. Well a couple clicks led me to find that amazon is selling refurbished Kindles, complete with all-new packaging and 1-year warranty for only $329! I almost bought 2, just so I could flip one on the bay, but decided not to push my luck. Anyway, Christmas is saved, and in a matter of a few days I've gone from zero to hero.
Amazon Kindle - The Oprah Effect
So my wife is a big-time reader, like 2-3 novels a week when she is on a roll, like when she is in her reading zone, I could tell her we just won the lottery and she wouldn't bat an eye.
So, I thought a great Christmas gift for her would be an Amazon Kindle. Well I decided to check out the current price earlier this week - $359 - not bad, I seem to remember it selling for $399 a few months ago. Then I see it:
Availability: Usually ships within 11-13 weeks
Ugh. That won't work.
Apparently they are now experiencing heavy demand. Well I blame none other than Oprah Winfrey. A month or two ago, she featured the Kindle and had Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on to talk about it. There is no doubt in my mind that Oprah has ruined Christmas for my wife.
